Solar2D is the world’s greatest 2D game engine, says me.
Solar2D is a “new” 2D cross platform and open source game engine that I’ve been using for over a decade. How is that possible? It’s actually the amazing Corona framework that has gone fully open-source and is now community driven.
For the past 8 years I’ve been using it full time at Glitch Games, a micro studio that develops the best Mystlike adventure games that you’ve never played, and before that I used it for a couple of years working on my own projects.
Throughout that time I’ve explored various other frameworks/engines, and used some even before that, and in all honesty I’ve never found one that was actually fun to develop in, other than Solar.
I know that sounds like marketing speak but it really isn’t ( if anyone knows our work at Glitch you’ll know that my skills at marketing are non-existent, which is one of the many reasons why you don’t know our work at Glitch ).
Solar2D allows you to go from dumb idea in your head to playable prototype in no time at all ( and then if you’re like me straight to the “this was clearly a dumb idea” phase all too quickly ).
I mean, look at this, I just knocked it up in a few minutes ( clearly it’s terrible, but it’s certainly something ).
So, if you’ve always wanted to make a game, or already do make games and always wanted the process to actually be enjoyable, then check out Solar2D 2day.
